Ralph Koziarski writes me: I heard from Ron Condron Fri. night that John Cohen had passed away that day from a heart attack. He had been fighting diabetes the last couple of years. John Cohen was the owner/operator of AAA frame shop on Antionette and Cass. He had also been living there, the last I knew of. I met John in the 70's when he and his father had a larger AAA frame shop on Grand River near the Lodge Fwy. Barbara Greene brought me there to pick up some frame material. He had a house in the Corktown area around that time. John was a music fan especially Blues and played some harmonica himself. Over the years John had matted and framed 8 or 9 pieces for me. I'll miss his energy and seeing him around the summer outdoor festivals. R. I. P. John Cohen. Check back for updates. |

I spent a lot of time with John. I had a house on Brooklyn /over the foot bridge/ at pine around 1983. For part of a cold winter.... jam sessions on grand river...not far from his place. a reg at Mr. Jesse Whites... met him at concert at tarter field...Bobby Franklyn Insanity 1970 ? and again at the beginning of the blues club with mike witty, at blues fest at U of D 1975. We went to shows and also Chicago with Barry Burack to celibrate chi bluz fest...seems very long ago! |
