Dear Steven, great new site. What fun to quickly read. I am doing a show now: "The Drunk Monologues" which has a lot of Detroit material in it including the New Miami Bar and my band and other detroit bands. The website for my show is: http://www.httheater.org - where you can see excerpts of the piece and 6 photos of me. (Click on "the drunk monologues")I would like to send you some excerpts from the show, in particular the new miami bar references. Thanks, Diane

Diane,

Saw your site - you sure haven't dropped the ball since you started running. Great to see you on the web.
And yes, I'll have a New Miami Tribe up and running as soon as time permits; hope you'll be able to contribute more Corridor lore over time.

Best,

Stephen

the early days we're filled with bands Shadowfax; Mitch Rder and the Stooges; we did anything we wanted.

I use to hang out at the New Miami with a friend of mine name Steve Qualls, he had a Rock band that played the New Miami call Live Wire, we use to have a blast. I would go up on stage and introduce the band like they were big time and the crowd "would not go wild " :-). Those were the good days. Does anyone know Carmen Leslie, she use to work at a bar on cass and Hancock I think? I can't remeber the name of it but it was a nice watering hole. CD

our bands, Fresh Hell and Blame Mother played there several times when it was the old and new miami. The crowd was an interesting mix of hippiepunks and bitter vietnam vets. The vets liked our shows becaus we sometimes wore skimpy costumes. I used to sit at the bar and some of them would relive their most heinous times in the war. It was kinda sad. I saw some great bands there over the years, most of whose names escape me. I think I saw sleep there a couple of times and Rockabilly Rudy and the Rockabilly cats. I loved Rudy; he was the epitomy of cool even if he was a lush like me then. Is he still around?

Dangerous Diane, didn't Lenard Johnson and Tony Tornado play with you? I never met you, I don't think, but I have some Leonard and Tony stories...YIKES!

update on the miami bar, things are wonderful over there, so happy for the neighborhood to be able to have a place like this. there are still vets, some punks, but lots of new young people who who are from quite an assorted variety. from hippy activists to raver types. i feel we were all lucky to discover it. the owner danny has done a great thing for the community. there is an awesome backyard to hang out and be safe in at summer time.
not to mention i always feel welcome..what could be better than that?
