I'm interested in the Cass Park Area. Can anyone share some info about the area?

The park on Temple at Cass, was the site for Michael Luch's sculpture which probably wasn not as well appreciated as it should have been. There wasn't much to do in the park except walk through it. It was so far south of where most of us lived that it wasn't a hangout. The Masonic Temple was directly across the street as well as the building that served as the welfare office. I worked in that building, so am very familiar with the area.

I attended Cass Tech. and we used to go to that park to get high. A few years later when I lived on Cass and Selden Michael Luchs' "Rabbit" sculpture was installed in the park. Too bad it's not there now. It was a great piece. I don't think people appreciated it. Mostly that park was a wino hangout.

Oh my, it was 40 years ago that I lived at the Charlotte apartments, 625 Charlotte, just a block or two up from Cass Park. We would sometimes roam around and through the park. It was serene back in the day. The Masonic Temple must have had ballroom dancing back in the '60s as I remember many nights we would watch the most elegantly dressed couples arrive. Also lived on Third at Brainerd, Third at Forrest and went to Jefferson Jr HS. Loved the nights and the lights and sounds around us.

This really isn't the venue for this subject, but since you mention it, here goes...
The plight of the homeless in this State is shameful. I have often thought that a group of socially attuned lawyers ought to get together, charder a daily bus for the homeless and take them a-beggin' to Birmingham, Bloomfield. When the police try to hustle the homeless back across the Detroit city limits, the lawyers spring into action. Come on everybody - Let's spread out the poverty!
